Tuesday Tips and Recipes #7

Over the weekend, I tried a new pancake recipe and posted this pic on FB with the caption "Nailed it".

I thought it was obvious that I did NOT, in fact, nail it, but some people didn't catch the sarcasm.  So, for those that didn't catch it, the top picture is from the Chef Ron Lock website where I found the recipe. The bottom picture is my {sort of} fail.  I say "sort of", because, while the first couple of pancakes looked terrible and tasted a little chewy, I modified the directions and the rest of the batch tasted delicious!

The directions for the recipe, which you can find by clicking the above link, say to scoop the pancake batter into a the pan, then pipe the cinnamon filling onto the pancake batter.  I did that, and when I flipped the pancake the cinnamon filling kind of crystalized and, well, it was not pretty.

(I know these pics are pretty rotten as far as blog pics go these days--seriously, bloggers have become professional photographers--but I was just snapping them with my phone while I was ruining cooking them. ;)

My second attempt did not turn out any better, but I did plate it and serve it to my husband.  God bless that man!

I decided to just mix the cinnamon filling into the batter in the bowl, and that was actually a good idea.  No sarcasm, it really was a good idea.  The pancakes truly tasted like cinnamon rolls, and everyone liked them!

Something that I have learned from pancake recipes (that I forgot this weekend!), is that when it says "Serves 8" or "Yield 8", it literally means serves eight pancakes, not eight people!  So, keep that in mind and adjust your recipe accordingly.

The next time I make these, I will probably just use my favorite pancake recipe and use Chef Ron's cinnamon filling and glaze recipe.  And, in case you are wondering, my go to recipe is Good Old Fashioned Pancakes from Allrecipes.com They are our favorite!

In other news, the wallpaper removal is almost complete, but I have had to take a break for the last couple of days due to a hyper extended back during family plank time.  Yes, our family has started "planking" together.  We started out at 10 seconds, and we are up to 60 seconds.  Well, apparently I am only at about 45 seconds, hence the hyper extended back...Anyhow, I hope to finish the wallpaper removal in the next couple of days and start painting before the end of the week. (And the fact that I have managed to survive for nearly 35 years, in spite of myself, is pretty much a miracle!)

Here is a pic of the last "wall art" that I have discovered.

Oh my creepiness!  Too funny!

It has thawed out a bit here in the Midwest, and it is snowing as I type this.  Even though it is a chilly, gray day, I am going to enjoy the Son.  Be blessed, friends!
